With the increased scaling however, there is a corresponding increase in failures and therefore the need to detect, correct, and recover from these faults that inevitably occur. These approaches can range from redundancy and replication to checkpoint-restart, performance attenuation, and autonomous self-organization. Each approach has its advantages and limitations, and must be adopted and tailored for given situations. This special session will focus on the factors that influence failures in systems at scale, and approaches to address tolerance to failures as systems increase in scale.. We invite original articles, position papers, and short presentations on research that explores models, methods, measurement, and frameworks related to Failure Resilience in Scalable Systems. Participants are encouraged to submit papers on topics including, but not limited to: - Predicting failures in scalable systems - Models for relating failures to size in computing, networks, and storage systems - Approaches to tolerating failures i.e. built-in resilience in scalable systems - Detection mechanisms and their costs in scalable software and hardware systems - Approaches to recovery in large scale systems - Autonomous self-repairing techniques for scalable systems IMPORTANT DATES Paper Submission Deadline: May 28, 2018 Author Notification Date: June 30, 2018 Camera-ready Deadline: August 8, 2018 PAPER SUBMISSION A submission is limited to 6 pages for a special session paper in the IEEE Computer Society Proceedings Format (https://www.ieee.org/conferences_events/conferences/publishing/templates.html) with Portable Document Format (.pdf). All submissions will be reviewed by at least 3 referees. A submission can have at most 2 additional pages with the pages overlength charge if accepted. Please submit at: https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=scalcom2018. Important Tip: When submitting a paper to this special session, please make sure to choose the Track: Failure Resilience in Scalable Systems (FRSS) in EasyChair of the main conference. PAPER PUBLICATION Accepted conference papers will be published by IEEE CPS (IEEE-DL and EI indexed). At least one author of each accepted paper is required to register and present their work at the conference; otherwise the paper will not be included in the proceedings. Best Paper Awards will be presented to high quality papers. Selected papers will be recommended to special issues. More details can be found via http://www.smart-world.org/2018/scalcom/.
